Jim, a newer side of Katrina

2008-11-19 04:47:21

After talking to some friends, I certainly concede to some of what
you say. To me it just seems like a "live" one of those movies,
action-thrillers, I just don't care for.
I agree with the part, what happened with local, state government?
The Governor on down, where were they? That Mayor certainly made
quite a clear statement on what it was that he needed. But
suprisingly, only to me I'm sure, was his lack of making more radio
addresses after Bush's first visit. Much less the Governor seemed to
disappear.
Many elected officials, but this 3 star General had to come in and
restore some kind of peace. As friends in NYC pointed out, at the
WTC, an American Flag was put up, it was people helping people. But
thos that were able to get to the arena, buses, should have had put
more care for their own...now reaching out for relatives, they should
have considered before they even got their own butt out. Not
terrorized and looted, to where the police even gave up.
My heart goes out still for anyone, an animal they can rescue. And
have really quit watching this horror 24/7. But I'm sure it will
affect the USA more and more.
Only thing, please look up how many times this levy was "supposed" to
be fixed. LA knew. Gov't knew.
Maybe we should quit making this a political forum, I won't anymore,
and knowing me, I started it.
Came up to NJ a month before 9-11, now this. Going to make more plans
to head back to NC to drag these storms with me, I hope, but all this
horror just hearts my heart.
Love Lori, and kiss the piggies for me,
Elizabeth

Yes, I hope Phyllis got some help at Urgent Care. My doc said 900mg
of neurontin is the minimum therapeutic dose. After reading the bad
reports I am going to try reducing to see what happens. I have tried
up to the 1800mg but didn't notice any difference, worth trying
though.

I have been in a hurricane, but not anything like this. And if you think I
don't feel for those people along the southern coast, then you did not get my
point.
My point was that the mayor of New Orleans and the city had the first
responsibility for the people (along with the other coastal cites, but Nagin has
been the most vocal). The city had an armada of school busses and city busses
that were not used. The FEDERAL government had to talk this idiot into a forced
evacuation. He is an incompetent fool. I recall the saying that the best
defense is a good offense. He executed no game plan whatsoever, except to cuss
after the fact. When heads start to roll, his should be the first because he
could have saved the most lives. Any crooks in the city government should be
executed, because I am sure the "me first, everyone else second" had a lot to do
with thousands of people dying.
Then there is the state. The state knew full well the condition of the levees.
Why didn't it have provisions staged to plug any leaks? There are a lot of
other things the state could have done, but did not, that directly caused the
deaths of thousands of people. The governors head should be second in line to
roll. Then the heads of the La government who are responsible for emergency
management should roll.
Some of the people on this board are trying to take advantage of the dead and
dying to bash Bush. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. It took a couple of days
to determine the scope of the problem and a couple more to mobilize. How were
they to know the city police would drop weapons and run? How were they to know
the state police would not step in? On top of that, the people who were on the
ground trying to help were being car-jacked, boat-jacked, raped, and shoot at.
This condition is directly in the lap of the local and state police and the city
and state for not executing a post-disaster plan.
I won't sit by and let you say these problems are due solely to George Bush. It
is a lie.

Take care of yourself! Hope you get good news at Urgent Care. Neurotin
is nuts. Much safety on your trip.
Called this pain management doc. She said I could lower the dose
100mg. that's still 800 mg, but when I see her next week, I have to
increase it. Has to go to 1800mg. We'll certainly have an eye to eye
discussion about this. When I was at my regular doc last week, I'd
lost 15 lbs. Just can't seem or want to eat. Idea of it makes me sick.

Have you ever been in a hurricane?
Was in one place, sick with the flu, could still drive then. One car
went around with a bull horn, stating that the hurricane was headed
there. Drove and drove with my dog. Pets are not allowed in shelters.
AT 3 AM, Hurricane hit there. I was lucky, only one giant oak tree
fell on the house. Part of the roof just flew away
.
Some people don't want their beloved pets just left for who knows how
long. Older people just don't feel up to leaving their homes. The
hotels are already full. Nothing is open except the hospital. When I
was working at the hospital, you work 24/7 for a long time.
Sorry I used the word looters, word used on TV. Breaking into a Gucci
store and gun store. Taking everything. Last thing you need hours and
hours after the wind so bad the trees are bent to the ground,
tornados all over the place, sound is deafening, whatever just flying
thru the air. Pouring rain. then these people have a flood! Hope they
traded them for food and water.
Elizabeth, still praying for all of them

Elizabeth,
It is still the lead story on BBC News 24. Latest quote: "It has taken
US five days to start behaving like a Super Power"

Screw that doc! Forget Neurotin.
Anybody ever been in a hurricane? Hurricane becomes a piece of cake,
if you are not under a bunch of wood or killed. The 90 plus heat and
humidity for days, will drive you crazy. No electricity, no water,
everything in the fridge is rotten. On meds? Forget that. Using
oxygen, well, forget that, too. And if you think you are driving
anywhere, no way. Downed power lines all over the roads.
Granted my parents were older than me, I had bought enough food stuff
and water. And kept them talking and moving around. Sure, there's a
foot of water on the ground. But these people, God rest their souls,
are UNDERWATER! But my parent's were constantly going to bed...
ABC, NBC, CBS, have Tennis, Golf and Football on; Fox has a rerun of
MASH.
Don't know where you live, but the WTC was on every channel. Already
know from other groups, the government doesn't give a dam* about
disabled people. So I guess all these elected officials care even
less about human and animal life.
They are dropping bags of sand in a ripped apart levy?? Haven't even
put enough to show above water. Giant chunk of this dam is gone.
Robert, I'm not nuts, guess I care too much. Ever worked at a
hospital for 20 years?
My heart goes out to everybody.
Many prayers,
Elizabeth

Re: [Dystonia] neurontin

Hi Kim,
When I took Neurontin for my dystonia, it made the left half of my face go
numb!!

Kim,
If you have been taking it for a week and a half and see no benefit,
I agree, stop taking it. With any med there is a risk/ benefit
equation, and if there is no benefit, don't take the risk.

Robert,
THanks for posting that link. You answered my question. I'm going to stop taking
neurontin TODAY!!

robert <bisto52@...
Phyllis,
I just googled for 'neurontin'+'suicide' and found this link:
http://www.legalnewswatch.com/news_118.html
The letters from people who have been adversely affected by this drug
are shocking.
I have been taking it for nearly three years at various doses from
600mmg to 1800mg. I currently take 900mg in three doses of 300mg. I
also take clonazepam (which causes depression in some people)
It certainly helped at the start with the pain, and probably SAVED me
from considering other solutions.
Apart from a little dizziness early on, I have not experienced the
severe side effects these people are talking about.
What bothers me now is that I have never actually tried to stop
taking it. Apparently the problems only really show up if one stops
this drug. It is claimed that neurontin can cause some irreversible
changes to the GABA system. If that is true it is a bit scary.
I have suspected that it may be responsible for some occasional
gastro pain but dismissed it. Another claim that is made, is that
neurontin can cause chronic pancreatitis! More worry.
like most I was totally unaware that all this was going on!
I just hope that, as with most meds, there will always be a small
percentage of people who will have these adverse side effects, and I
am not one of them!
Robert
